Kordia Spectrum

Kordia™'s Spectrum

Kordia™ owns spectrum in a number of bands. Our customers are able to make use of this spectrum. Our current duplex holdings (paired go-return spectrum) are held across several bands:

  • 2 GHz (2.1 - 2.3 GHz)
  • 3.5 GHz
  • 25 GHz

2 GHz (2.1 - 2.3 GHz) Spectrum

The 2 GHz has a long wavelength (around 150mm). This makes the 2 GHz spectrum especially good for providing mobile and domestic wireless services.

Kordia™'s holding is perfect for point-to-multipoint applications, particularly wireless local loop (as a replacement for copper-based telephone services) and internet delivery.

3.5 GHz Spectrum

The 3.5 GHz spectrum is ideal for telephone and internet services (around 85mm wavelength).

Users of this band in Australasia have the advantage of access to equipment developed for overseas markets.

US manufacturers view this band as the 'international' counterpart to their MMDS band. They make 3.5 GHz versions of products they develop for their own 2.5 GHz market.

In Europe, the 3.5 GHz band is used for wireless local loop or fixed wireless access.
Kordia™'s holding is a 21 + 21 MHz pair of frequency blocks.

25 GHz Spectrum

The 25 GHz spectrum is often referred to as the LMDS (local multipoint distribution service) spectrum. Its range is short (only a few kilometres) and it has higher equipment costs.

It is only 10% higher in frequency than the more widely used 23 GHz band, giving it the potential to solve problems in the point-to-point and point-to-multipoint areas.
Kordia™'s holding consists of a 168 + 168 MHz pair.

More About Spectrum Holdings

Kordia™ is also licensed to use Government-owned spectrum on behalf of our customers. We are more than happy to research and apply for the new licenses you may need.

Our own network mainly uses licences in the 4.5 GHz band. Other licenses support our network in the 6, 8, 10, 18, 23 and 50 GHz bands.

We also have miscellaneous licences in a number of other bands including:

  • 2 GHz
  • Ku (12 GHz) bands
