Digital Terrestrial Broadcast Services

Launching our DVB-T based transport and transmission services in 2008, Kordia™ is now able to provide broadcasters with a range of digital terrestrial broadcast services.

These will be delivered through some of Kordia™'s terrestrial network of broadcast sites in New Zealand.

Standard and high-definition TV services

Television, radio and other multi-media broadcast services will be available, based on the International DVB-T standard.

Both standard definition and high definition television services are possible based on the use of:

  • MPEG-4 (AVC/H264) video compression standards
  • Multi-channel statistical multiplexing

The radio services are encoded and compressed to a range of industry standards. Bit rates are available from 64kbps and above, to suit the broadcasters content and quality requirements.

How Kordia™’s DTT broadcast service works

Kordia™'s digital terrestrial broadcast services are available via Kordia™'s head-end and interface location in Auckland.

We currently provides a range of terrestrial broadcast contribution services in New Zealand. We can also provide a studio to DTT head-end linking service for broadcasters as required.

Digital terrestrial broadcast services will be initially deployed over seven regions in the UHF band (518MHz to 806MHz). They will reach about 75% of the total New Zealand population.

In some regions, multiple transmission sites are being developed. These will ensure a high likelihood of reception by viewers on UHF receiving systems.

These digital terrestrial services complement Kordia™'s current analogue broadcast services and satellite broadcast services.
