Digital television—whether delivered via satellite or via terrestrial transmitters—is being provided in New Zealand by Kordia™.
Kordia™ is proud to have been selected by the broadcasters behind Freeview to provide these next-generation broadcast services.
Our satellite services commenced in May 2007, and we successfully launched terrestrial services in February 2008.
Are a television broadcaster or wanting to start your own television station? We can provide the essential delivery service of your television signal to New Zealand viewers.
Kordia™ is now able to provide broadcasters with a range of digital broadcast services including:
> Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) services
> Television and radio direct-to-home (DTH) distribution services
New Zealand’s satellite digital TV service will cover 100% of the country. It will use the same satellite as the current pay television operator.
Kordia™ will be operating the satellite transponder capacity on behalf of Freeview and other customers.
The terrestrial digital TV service will cover over 75% of the population in its first-phase of rollout. Further terrestrial expansion is planned in the future.
Deployment of digital terrestrial television in New Zealand's rugged, unforgiving landscape is challenging and expensive. We have set aside $35m for the terrestrial rollout; a major investment in our future.
Our digital broadcast services ensure you can participate in the exciting world of digital television. You’ll be able to access this technology at a lower total-cost of ownership through shared infrastructure.
You will be utilising a professional world-class broadcast service backed up by a nationwide maintenance presence. This allows you to concentrate on producing the program, leaving the broadcast transmission to us.
Our platforms will also carry digital radio services. Radio (audio) content delivery services can be provided over the satellite and terrestrial platforms for both mono and stereo services.
